CS-439 Wireless Networks and Mobile Computing Spring semester 2019 |
In the context of the course, the wireless infrastructure at the Telecommunication and Networks Lab (TNL), FORTH-ICS has been used. The infrastructure includes several wireless APs that have been used in an experimental testbed for the design, implementation, and evaluation of various mechanisms, such as AP selection, power control, monitoring, and routing (Figures 1, 2 and 3). High-end dual-processor systems at FORTH can be used to monitor the infrastructure. The TNL also offers several physical-layer monitors and spectrum/signal analyzers: Rohde & Schwarz FSH-6 (100KHz-6GHz), wideband antenna Schwarzbeck USLP9142, 700 MHz-8Hz), Spectran HF 6060 (1MHz-6GHz), HF 6080 (1MHz-7GHz), NF 5030 (1KHz-1MHz), directional antennas HyperLOG 7060 (700MHz-6GHz), 6080 (700MHz-7GHz), isotropic antennas BicoLOG 20300 (20MHz-3GHz), low-band spectrum detectors (Multidetector II Profi, 3Hz-3GHz) (Figures 4, 5 and 6).
In addition, a metropolitan wireless mesh testbed has been deployed and could be also used in this project (Figure 2).
Another available infrastructure is the FORTH Ambient Intelligence (AmI) Facility. The AmI activity encompasses a fully equipped facility within the premises of FORTH, including high-performance equipments, such as sensors, cameras, projector screens, microphones, virtual displays, surround sound equipment, and so forth. Finally, we have built our own traffic generators based on our research on traffic modeling. These traffic generators have been integrated into ns-2 and also used in emulation testbeds for evaluating various wireless networking protocols.
