Pedagogical and Teaching Competency Programme (PDP)

The School of Science and Technology of the University of Crete implements a Pedagogical and Teaching Competence Programme (hereinafter referred to as PDEP) for students of the School of Science and Technology of the University of Crete, from the academic year 2015-16, in accordance with the provisions of case a of paragraph 3 of paragraph 3 of Law 3848/2010 (Government Gazette A 71/19.5.2010) as amended and in force, case a of paragraph 22 of paragraph 36 of Law 4186/2013 (Government Gazette A 193/17.9.2013), in accordance with Law 4485/2017, no. 18 (§ e, i) and Law 4589/2019 no. 54 (§3, 4) and no. 66 (§2).

The PCP of the PC is equivalent in terms of time to a two-semester curriculum with a workload corresponding to 60 ECTS developed in three axes: A) Education and Education, B) Learning and Teaching, and C) Specific Teaching and Practice. Practical training in secondary schools is considered a prerequisite for the award of the Certificate.

The programme is aimed primarily at students and graduates of the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Computer Science, and the Departments of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, as potential teachers of secondary and lifelong education.  Upon completion, participants will receive the "Certificate of Pedagogical and Teaching Competence" - in accordance with the above provisions where it is stipulated that this certificate is an important qualification graded by the ASEP (for PE03, PE04 and PE86) and a formal qualification for appointment in public and private primary and secondary education.

Students may enrol in the programme on a case-by-case basis as follows:

• Undergraduate students: Those who complete the PDP while still active students are normally enrolled in the Student Registry without the need to apply,
•  Undergraduate students planning to obtain their undergraduate degree while still enrolled in the EQF: These students are invited to apply for the EQF when the call for applications is made prior to obtaining their degree. Before receiving their degree, they participate as undergraduates , while immediately after receiving their degree they continue as graduates once their application has been approved, and
• Graduates: Graduates are required to have applied to a previous call for applications to participate in the PDP and participate after their application has been approved.
