Ο βασικός στόχος του µαθήµατος είναι η παρουσίαση της σύγχρονης τεχνολογίας λογισµικού και των κυρίαρχων εργαλείων, για την ανάπτυξη εφαρµογών που έχουν προηγµένες διεπαφές οι οποίες υποστηρίζουν ευφυή, κινητή, και πολυµεσική αλληλεπίδραση. Ειδικότερα, θα παρουσιαστούν: αρχιτεκτονικές, αλγόριθµοι, µοντέλα, APIs, βιβλιοθήκες λογισµικού, σχεδιαστικά λογισµικά πρότυπα, εργαλεία, πρωτόκολλα, τεχνικές σχεδίασης, και ποικίλα αποσπάσµατα από υπάρχοντα συστήµατα, για την αντιµετώπιση του σύνθετου κατασκευαστικού προβλήµατος διεπαφών µε τις παραπάνω ιδιότητες. Τα πεδία εφαρµογών στα οποία επικεντρώνεται το µάθηµα συµπεριλαµβάνουν: κινητά συστήµατα πλοήγησης και πληροφόρησης (mobile navigation and information systems), έξυπνα κιόσκια πληροφόρησης (intelligent kiosks) και ανάπτυξη παιχνιδιών (video games).

Με την επιτυχή ολοκλήρωση του μαθήματος οι φοιτητές έχουν κατανόηση των θεμάτων σχετικών με την τεχνολογία ανάπτυξης έξυπνων διεπαφών και παιχνιδιών:
