Entrepreneurship describes the discovery and exploitation of opportunities to promote sustainable and inclusive development and social change. In this course students will learn about the significance, aims and scope of social entrepreneurship, its historical evolution, the emerging activities in the social economy sector and the institutional, funding, and public policy framework for social enterprises in Greece in the context of the EU. Furthermore, in this course, the students will be introduced to the basic tools, concepts, and framework, for the design and establishment of a new venture and will learn how to organize teams, manage resources, and establish processes to create social impact and address a social or environment problem.
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students are expected to know and understand:
- the multiple forms and different types of enterprises involved in the social economy and the Third Sector.
- the historical development of the social economy and of social entrepreneurship in Greece in a European context, as well as the overall theoretical framework and basic concepts.
- principles of management and business organization, marketing, teamwork and leadership in social enterprises.
- the alternative business models and ways of creating and sustaining social innovation.
- the economic, social, political and technological challenges for social enterprises in Europe and internationally
- public policies for social economy and means of funding for social entrepreneurs in Greece and the EU.
