Speech Synthesis: Advancements in Modern Speech Synthesis Engines

WELCOME

The Speech Processing Courses in Crete (SPCC) are targeting to teach graduate students and researchers the latest advancements of speech processing covering theory, hands on, and establishing contacts between the academics and industry. The school will provide the chance to students and professionals to meet world leaders in speech technology, exchanging ideas, sharing experiences and vision.
The Summer School is organized by the University of Crete, Greece, and supported by ISCA. It is also sponsored by Toshiba, Google, and ILSP Athena. We thank our sponsors for their support.

    • Erica Cooper, Columbia University, USA, for her poster entitled Data Selection for Naturalness in HMM-based Speech Synthesis.
    • Manu Airaksinen, Aalto University, Finland, for his poster entitled GLOTDNN – Full-band glottal vocoder with DNN-based excitation generation.
    • Pallavi Baljekar, Carnegie Mellon University, USA, for her poster entitled RNN Grammars for speech synthesis.

  • 01-7-2016: Unfortunately, Dr. Richard Sproat from Google USA will not attend the summer school for health reasons. Instead, Prof. Simon King will present the topic of Text Normalization and Linguistic Analysis.
  • Participation in the SPCC 2016 Summer School grants 3 ECTS to students. Please send an e-mail to Dr. G. Kafentzis (kafentz AT csd DOT uoc DOT gr) should you need such a certificate.

  • We will support 2 ISCA student members to participate to the school by covering their registration fees. A letter from the student's supervisor should be submitted along with the letter of interest. Eligible students must express their interest from March 18 to the end of April. The winners will be announced in time.
  • Registration Info

    Students: €350, Non-students: €500, to cover lunches, coffee breaks, banquet, school materials, bus transfer between city and campus. Limited number of places for highly motivated researchers and students, so reserve your position soon (yannis@csd.uoc.gr).

    Awards

    Participants, if they wish, are expected to present their work as a poster (119cm width x 97cm height, at most) or demo, during 1 hour in each day (at the mid of each school day). There will be an award for the best student poster/demo which will be announced during the last day (closing ceremony). The three best posters will receive gifts from Google. Theory will be followed by hands on sessions while speech synthesis systems will be demonstrated by the lecturers during the last day of the school.
